Dr. Stephen M. Heinz is the Medical Director for Sky Ridge Medical Center's Emergency Department. Dr. Heinz, a 24-year resident of Lone Tree, worked as medical director for the emergency department at Rose Medical Center - another hospital in the HealthONE system.
"I live in Lone Tree, and I think it's wonderful that have our own facility," Dr. Heinz says. "I want our ER (emergency room) to meet all the needs of the community."
The emergency department has private rooms for patients and "all the latest and greatest technology," he adds. One Sky Ridge Medical Center innovation is the close placement of critical hospital services, such as the laboratory and radiology departments, near the emergency department. "Having all the ancillary services adjacent to the ER is important," Dr. Heinz says. "And having the ICU (intensive care unit) on the same floor is a tremendous benefit so that we won't have patients that far removed."
Sky Ridge Medical Center was built to serve its neighbors in the south metro counties, who currently don't have a full-service, acute-care hospital," says Sky Ridge President and CEO Maureen Tarrant. "Highlands Ranch, Lone Tree, Parker, Castle Rock, and Littleton, as well as southern Douglas and Arapahoe counties are among the fastest growing areas in the nation, and they finally have state-of-the-art healthcare nearby."
Dr. Heinz earned his medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit and served his residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He moved to the Denver area in 1983, when he began working as an emergency physician at Rose Medical Center. In addition to his posts at Rose Medical Center's Department of Emergency, Dr. Heinz also serves as medical advisor to the Castle Rock, Rattlesnake and Jackson 105 Fire Departments. He has been an oral board examiner with the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians, Colorado Medical Society and Denver Medical Society. "I spend my free time with my family - we have three boys," he says. "We're always going from one of their sporting events to the next."
